The Intuitive Group Review – Growing Up

Growing Up Is Uncomfortable

Intuitive-Group-Review Growing-Up
When you were born you took your first breath. That cool air filling your lungs was so uncomfortable that it caused you to cry. Now you take those breaths a thousand times every day without thinking. The coined term “a breath of fresh air” does not apply when we are first born.

Now you are in your high chair and you are learning how to eat by yourself, trying to uncomfortably hold your fork instead of using your hands so you can be the big kid “mommy” said you were. Something that we do every day without thinking as we grow older.

Your first steps were definitely uncomfortable. Learning how to walk was a huge obstacle for each of us. Through bumps and bruises we stuck it out and eventually learned how to navigate around the house on our own. Due to repetition and practice we do not think twice about getting up and walking somewhere.

“NO. DADA. MAMA.”

Whatever your first words were, getting it out was as uncomfortable as it gets. For the longest time your crying and giggles got you what you wanted. It took time to learn your first words, but without getting that out of the way telephone conversations just would not be the same.

A memorable moment for every child is learning how to ride a bike. You have picked out the perfect bike and are about to take those first wobbly uncomfortable pedals just before you inevitably fall. But you are determined; you get back on and learn how to ride your bike. The next thing you know, you are riding your bike with no hands! Something you will never forget how to do.

At some point in your life you became involved in hobbies. Some went in the direction of sports while others went in the direction of the arts . . .some even did both. Regardless of your interests that first day of practice or first day of workshops were uncomfortable. The first time swinging a bat, dribbling a basketball, or the first stroke of the paintbrush . . . you did not know what the outcome was going to be. Over time you learned the right techniques and more than likely you became pretty good at them with discipline and practice.

Sixteen and able to drive?!? It is what every teenager cannot wait to do. As excited as you are the first time you get behind the wheel, you are nervous and uncomfortable. It is a whole new experience that year’s later it becomes second nature.
Now you are ready for your first date! You may think you are calm cool and collected but the 15 different outfit changes and talking to yourself in the mirror goes to show how uncomfortable that first date really is.

Dates can still be a little unnerving but over time they get easier and more exciting, especially when you meet the person you are going to spend the rest of your life with.

Finally you have made it to the point in your life where you have a career. A position that utilizes the skills you have learned over time, a place where you can grow and retire from one day. Yes, just like everything else listed, at first getting this job was uncomfortable: the interview, the first day of training, the first day on your own…all uncomfortable! But now you have moved passed all that, it may be a few short weeks in or a couple long months/years in, but you are not where you wanted to be. You are not where you thought you were going to be. Your excitement has worn off and you do not know what to do. I’ll tell you!

GET COMFORTABLE BEING UNCOMFORTABLE!

You’re whole life you have been learning to do things that were always uncomfortable at first but they all brought you things you needed in life to grow and to be successful. It is no different in the work force. If you want to be the big CEO or owner of your own company you are going to have to get comfortable being uncomfortable! The most successful people got to where they are today because they challenged and pushed themselves to do the things no one else wanted to do.

Why? Because it was uncomfortable! You’re whole life you have been learning how to deal with being uncomfortable, so start using it to your advantage in the workplace! Whatever your position is, list the tasks that you know will get you to the next level and attack them! Some may take longer than others but history shows it will all be a success as long as you learn how to get comfortable being uncomfortable!

Intuitive Group’s Training Process – Just Like Everywhere Else

“If we did all the things we are capable of doing we would literally astonish ourselves.” –Thomas Edison

Every-Accomplishment-Starts-With-The-Decision-To-Try-Intuitive-Group-Inc

Make the decision to try

At some point in time all of us have to go through a training process.  Sometimes it is for hobbies or fitness and sometimes it is for your career.  Regardless of what types of training you will go through, without it you would not be able to hold a job or complete a touchdown pass or a 5k marathon.

As vital as the training process can be it can also be a little on the difficult side.  Hopefully this blog will help you push through the rough spots not only in training but on your path to success.

Training always starts off pretty much the same way.  You are SUPER excited and feel like you are indestructible.  You can’t wait to get all the things you need and are eager to start learning new things.  Then you start the training process and after your first couple days of training the initial excitement wears off. Inevitably you will come across something that you have a hard time picking up and it takes you longer then you expected to move through the process.  This is the point when most start doubting themselves.  When you come to this point the last thing you need to make it through is negativity and self-doubt.

Previously we spoke about surrounding yourself with a support system; a team of people who will help get you through the more difficult times.  However, to become successful there are times you will need to push yourself forward.  The best tip in doing so is by saying YES and then moving forward! Do not allow doubt to overcome you.  When a task becomes difficult instead of complaining about all the reason you don’t think you can do something just say YES, yes I can figure this out and move forward! In the beginning of your training process your excitement motivated you because you were learning something new, now that you are in the middle or at the end of your training allow the idea of you achieving something new motivate you, and keep saying YES to accomplishing your goals.

Regardless of what you are setting out to do always allow yourself to make it through the training process.  It is the training process that is the most difficult when learning something new. If you will not allow yourself to finish you may be holding yourself back from accomplishing great things!

Eliminate doubt, “Just say YES, and move forward”!

“Studies indicate that the one quality all successful people have is persistence. They’re willing to spend more time accomplishing a task and to persevere in the face of many difficult odds. There’s a very positive relationship between people’s ability to accomplish any task and the time they’re willing to spend on it.”

Intuitive Group’s Worst Enemy and How to Conquer Yours

"What matters most is how you see yourself"

Even the most successful people in this world have dealt with self-doubt.  One of the differences between the successful and unsuccessful is their ability to see past the unrealistic ideas they have in their head.  We can all be our own worst enemy at times; the best way to overcome this challenge is to learn to work with your “enemy”.

Below are a few helpful tips and quotes that will help you conquer self-doubt and bring you a stronger sense of determination:

1.

Recognize and acknowledge your doubt.  They always say the first step is admitting!  By ignoring self-doubt you are imposing limits on your abilities to do great things.   Take your doubt head on and acknowledge that YOU are putting your own restrictions on your success.  Blaming outside influences will only feed the negativity brewing in your mind about yourself.

“Success is a battle between you and yourself only” –Anonymous

2.

Analyze and plan.  Once you have acknowledged your self-doubt take time to address why you have those doubts.  When you do this your thoughts are more likely to be put into reality and logic will help you find a solution to overcoming your doubts.  If you are able to identify the source, more often than not you will be able to move past whatever doubts may be in your mind and help you see that you’re better than your “enemy”!

“ If you hear a voice within you say ‘you can’t paint’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced” –Vincent Van Gogh

3.

View mistakes as a good thing.  The reason why most of us have self-doubt to begin with is due to fear: fear of humiliation, fear of failure, fear of making a mistake.  You must remove the idea that mistakes are bad and with that you will remove some of the fear of failing or being embarrassed.  When you start having any limiting thoughts try and take a step back and think of the worst case scenarios; most of the time worst case really isn’t that bad in the grand scheme of things.  You can choose to believe your doubts and hold yourself back due to a fear of making a mistake OR you can push any debilitating thoughts off to the side and take a chance on success. Remember no one is perfect.

“A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing” –George Bernard Shaw

4.

Have a support system.  Handling self-doubt is a difficult task in itself, let alone if you are trying it alone.  Make sure you have a good support team to lean on during the more difficult times.   You need to have a group of close friends, family or co-workers you can trust and confide in. Having that solid group of people will be a great form of reassurance and boost of confidence you need for success.

Doubt is the father of invention” –Galileo

5.

Don’t look at it as a negative.  Self-doubt can be a very negative thing if you let it.  Allow the doubt to help you push forward.  Take your self-doubt and turn it into a personal challenge, push yourself to prove yourself wrong!  The best way to cope with self-doubt is recognizing the truth, and what better way to realize the truth but by conquering what you thought you couldn’t do.  You can do anything you put your mind to, so stop putting your mind on the “can not’s” and start thinking “yes I can”.

Work Ethic: What Does That Really Mean? 3 Tips

By Vickie Jimenez

(Follow her on Twitter)

Examining the Meaning of Work Ethic

Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to examine what work ethic meant to me. I think there is a difference between having a work ethic as an employee and having a work ethic as an entrepreneur. For me, they are very different from one another.

Work Ethic as an Employee

I remember being an employee and selling myself to my employer and telling him my skill sets, my loyalty and my background at other companies. I gave them references and hoped to impress them enough to have them add me to their payroll with my promises of working hard, being a team player and being willing to add to their company’s bottom line.

When I was offered the position, I remember going in gung ho and working at my fullest. I gave it everything and then I would become disappointed about a lost promotion or disillusioned at some broken promise or something that did not go my way. Suddenly I would feel not 100% and go in at half mast, work like a robot and just meet the minimum.

The great thing about having a job vs. owning a business was simply that you could come to work with your “A” game or with your “F” game and still get paid the same amount. You do not have to be at your best all the time when you are at a job. You simply have to be consistent at your job. Show up and move through the day, some days good, some days not so good, however, that did not lower or increase your pay. I wasn’t playing at my “A” game most of the time. I was being a “B” to “C” player. I often didn’t feel connected to a mission of a job, only to what it could provide me. If I didn’t get that, I was not interested in working my best. It was an entitled way of being and I thought it smart.

This was not only harmful to my employer; it was more harmful to me. I began believing a story about what my life was and I began settling for mediocrity and thinking it was good.

The Entrepreneurial Work Ethic

One day I realized that I did not want to have a mediocre life. I wanted to be a business owner that played on a major scale. I did not want to play small anymore; I just wanted to be more and better. I wanted to achieve my vision before I died.

So I stepped out into the unknown and began my entrepreneurial journey. In this arena I found work ethic. I found that in order to win, I had to work with my “A” game every day. This made me happy because I was reaching and confronting thoughts and behaviors that had been holding me back all my life. I got to explore gifts and talents I never knew I had.

I got to feel real self-esteem not a false sense. Work ethic is not about working more, harder or faster. Work ethic for me is about becoming real with your work. Loving what you do and feeling like you want your “A” game to be the standard in your life. If this is you then I must tell you that you will have to step out into the unknown and begin the journey.

Here are 3 things I did that really helped me:

Create a self-vision: I created a vision about who I wanted to become in myself. I wanted to be courageous, action oriented, creative and a healthy strong leader. Then I began working towards becoming that. Not all at once either, I made plans and took classes that helped me become my vision. This helped me develop a healing plan for healing myself. It was so important for me because it gave me so many skill sets that were necessary to succeeding. I could not have gotten here with them.

Create a support system: When I began my journey, I created a support system for me. I did this to ensure my success. I got a coach, a therapist and a mastermind group. When I had these things in place I had created for myself, accountability, camaraderie and leadership. I simply created a cocoon of success for myself to help me transform and become what I wanted to experience myself as.

Read and listen to audios: I shut off my TV and began reading non-fiction books and biographies about subjects and people who have made it to where I wanted to go. I learned so much from this one simple thing. I started out by reading one book a month. Now I read anywhere from three to five non-fiction books a month because my love for learning has exploded and I love reading.

If you want to find true work ethic within yourself and live your highest vision, then I would invite you to use the tools I used and come and join the fun. Create your adventure, be well and thrive.

 May you direct your dreams!

The “Other” Paul Mitchell – as explained by The Intuitive Group

Intuitive Group, Matt Sileno

John Paul DeJoria, 81st Richest American

The biggest hurdle is rejection. Any business you start, be ready for it. The difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is the successful people do all the things the unsuccessful people don’t want to do. When 10 doors are slammed in your face, go to door number 11 enthusiastically, with a smile on your face.” –John Paul DeJoria

How does it sound to have a house in Malibu, one in Las Vegas, and another in Austin, TX, and a few others in undisclosed locations? On top of that you are worth $4 billion and can do whatever you like whenever you like??

Sounds AWESOME right?!

For Mr. John Paul DeJoria this is his everyday life! But who, may you be asking, is this DeJoria guy? You have probably heard of Paul Mitchell hair products and know of Paul Mitchell himself; well Mitchell did not create the $900 million a year business alone, DeJoria was his partner and the face of the company. John Paul is also affiliated to the creation of Patron Tequila, the #1 selling top shelf tequila in the world!

While John Paul DeJoria, his wife, and four children are extremely grateful for everything they have and make generous donations and volunteer efforts numerous times a year, this life did not fall into his lap.

DeJoria grew up in a bungalow located in Echo Park, Las Angeles (he has said his childhood home was smaller than his living room, but with the money he has his living room might even be bigger than my house!).  His father left when John Paul was 2 years old; because of this he and his brother had to start working at an early age.  At the age of 9 DeJoria held his first job selling Christmas cards door-to-door.  The next year John Paul began delivering newspapers.  He and his brother would wake up at 4 a.m. fold, wrap, and deliver the papers along their routes.  Once finished they would head to school for the day.  John Paul DeJoria finished high school but never made it to college.

In his 20’s DeJoria said he held his most influential job, selling encyclopedia’s door-to-door.  Completely cold-calling people, John Paul said it would take seeing close to 40 doors before just one person would let him in to sell the $369 set of books (keep in mind he was doing this in the 60’s).  If things did not seem difficult enough, DeJoria went homeless at the age of 22 after his then wife left him with their 2 year old son.  Throughout this time John Paul worked a handful of odd jobs (pumping gas, janitor, bike repair, collecting recyclables) while trying to make things work.  He has said he went so long living out of a car because he was still too proud to ask for help, eventually he began staying with a biker friend and found a job with Redken as a district manager.

In 1971, unbeknownst to Dejoria, his life was about to take a dramatic turn when he met Paul Mitchell.  With only $700 combined to start, Paul and John Paul went into business together.  All $700 went into making the Paul Mitchell product (at the time it was two types of shampoo and a conditioner) and product design (the simple black and white was not a marketing trend, rather the most affordable design).  John Paul DeJoria found himself in a familiar place once again, going door-to-door, or rather beauty salon-to-beauty salon, selling Paul Mitchell hair products. Unfortunately that was not the only familiar thing; DeJoria was homeless once again while waiting for business to pick up.

Today Paul Mitchell has over 90 products and does business with over 90,000 hair salons in the U.S. and 45 other countries world-wide.  Once John Paul was in a comfortable position with Paul Mitchell, he partnered up with another friend of his and started Patron Tequila, one of the most well-known tequila companies.

It took John Paul DeJoria a lot of hard work, patience, and resilience to reach the level of success he is at today.  His story shows that nothing is ever promised to be easy but if you never given up and work the hardest you have ever worked toward your goals you too can find success!!

Fact: John Paul DeJoria was just featured in Forbes 400; he is ranked as the 81st richest American and 82nd billionaire in the United States.

The Intuitive Group: Winning!

“Winning is not a sometime thing; it’s an all the time thing. You don’t win once in a while; you don’t do things right once in a while; you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

“There is no room for second place. There is only one place in my game, and that’s first place. I have finished second twice in my time at Green Bay, and I don’t ever want to finish second again. There is a second place bowl game, but it is a game for losers played by losers. It is and always has been an American zeal to be first in anything we do, and to win, and to win, and to win.

“Every time a football player goes to play his trade he’s got to play from the ground up — from the soles of his feet right up to his head. Every inch of him has to play. Some guys play with their heads. That’s O.K. You’ve got to be smart to be number one in any business. But more importantly, you’ve got to play with your heart, with every fiber of your body. If you’re lucky enough to find a guy with a lot of head and a lot of heart, he’s never going to come off the field second.

“Running a football team is no different than running any other kind of organization — an army, a political party or a business. The principles are the same. The object is to win — to beat the other guy. Maybe that sounds hard or cruel. I don’t think it is.

“It is a reality of life that men are competitive and the most competitive games draw the most competitive men. That’s why they are there — to compete. To know the rules and objectives when they get in the game. The object is to win fairly, squarely, by the rules — but to win.

“And in truth, I’ve never known a man worth his salt who in the long run, deep down in his heart, didn’t appreciate the grind, the discipline. There is something in good men that really yearns for discipline and the harsh reality of head to head combat.

“I don’t say these things because I believe in the “brute” nature of man or that men must be brutalized to be combative. I believe in God, and I believe in human decency. But I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle — victorious.”

– V. Lombardi

We are all searching for some form of success, whether it is climbing the corporate ladder or starting our own profitable business.  We always want to be winning!

So we ask how do we make this happen, and in the fastest time possible.

Easy! Positive thinking and believing in those thoughts no matter what obstacles come our way.  We all have the ability to choose what kind of spin we put on life.  If something goes wrong in our planning we can look at it negatively and push ourselves back to square one; or we can look at it in a positive light, learn from our mistakes and move forward with more momentum than before.

We need to attack our goals and not be afraid of what might happen on the journey to them.  Stop second guessing yourself or asking what-if!  The most successful people never thought about the what-if’s, they thought about the end result.

I challenge you to remove all of your negative thoughts and to think positively. Success will begin to follow you instead of you constantly trying to chase it down.

The Intuitive Group: What DeNiro Knows About Business That You Don’t

From Meet the Fockers to Casino to Limitless, Robert De Niro is one of the most successful actors in the world. The next time you are watching one of his movies, do me a favor and don’t just watch them for pure entertainment, but watch them as a source of education.

Although Mr. De Niro is well known mainly for his acting abilities, you can actually learn a lot about business from his movies as well.

If you don’t believe it, just look at some of his movie quotes…

Don’t Be a Rat

“You learned the two greatest things in life, never rat on your friends, and always keep your mouth shut.”

Talking about people or tattle telling on people won’t make you look good in business, it will make you look bad. Unlike your personal life, your business life should be a drama free zone.

If you start gossiping or ratting people out you’ll start to earn a bad reputation and no one will want to hang out with you after hours. And although that may not sound like a big deal to you, a lot of business deals are done outside of the work place.

Emotions Affect Decisions

“People don’t try to show their feelings, they try to hide them.”

It doesn’t matter how logical or tough you are, you have emotions. There is nothing wrong with it, we all have emotions. And just like Mr. De Niro stated, you should try to hide them when doing business because they don’t mix well.

But when you are doing business with other people you need to look deep into their eyes, analyze their body language and figure out what feelings they are trying to hide. If you can figure out the emotions they don’t want to show you, you can then leverage those feelings to close a deal.

Just make sure you aren’t crossing any boundaries when doing this. For example, I would never leverage someone’s family or personal life to close a business deal as it unethical.

Patience is a Virtue

“All good things come to those who wait.”

The reason I have succeeded in business isn’t because I am smart, it’s because I am persistent. I have succeeded because I have been in business for over 10 years.

The first few years are always hard because you’ll make rookie mistakes, but as you continue your entrepreneurial journey you’ll be less likely to make mistakes and sooner or later you’ll start succeeding.

As long as you learn from your mistakes and you are willing to put in a good portion of your life into the business world, sooner or later you’ll do well. My recommendation is that you start as soon as possible as you don’t have too many financial or family obligations when you are 16 or 18 years old.

It’s Better to be the Solution Than the Problem

“Either you’re part of the problem or you’re part of the solution or you’re just part of the landscape.”

If you have an option to be part of the problem, solution, or landscape, which one would you pick? Hopefully you didn’t say landscape because that means you’re not even trying… instead you are just watching everyone pass you by.

If you said problem, that’s also bad because you don’t pay people who cause problems, you pay people who solve them.

Always try to solve people’s problems as you’ll make a lot more money doing so. When you start a business the first thing you should think about is “what problem are you solving.”

You should never start a business because you have a cool idea, instead you should start a business because you know of a problem that enough people have today and how you can solve it in a simple way.

Give a Little Respect

“I don’t give a s*** who he’s connected to. Tell him to take his feet off the table. What’s he think this is, a sawdust joint?”

It doesn’t matter how much money you have or who you are, you should always respect others. Just because you are famous or more successful than someone else, it doesn’t give you the right to treat them wrong.

In the long run when you start respecting the little guy, they will start telling all of their friends about you, and sooner or later more people will want to do business with you.

For example, I was at a conference in London a few years ago and no one wanted to help out this Russian kid who could barely speak English. I took 30 minutes of my time to give him free advice and that same night he told over 10 companies how great I was. One of those companies ended up giving my firm a 1.2 million dollar contract.

Don’t Stiff People

Whether my business is doing well or not, I always figure out a way to pay my employees on time and contractors that I am working with. If you can’t learn how to pay people the money you owe them, how can you expect people to always pay you?

I’ve been stiffed a lot of money and I probably still have a few hundred grand in receivables from companies that will never pay me. I never want to have other people experience that feeling as it isn’t fair to make people work for you and then not pay them.

You Don’t Know Everything

“You haven’t had to climb up all the grease balls. You haven’t been bored blind at fundraiser. You haven’t done the time and that first marriage to the girl with the right father. You think you can leap over all on a single bound. You haven’t had to bribe or charm or threaten your way to the seat at that table. You don’t know how to assess your competition because you haven’t competed. Don’t make me your competition.”

No matter how smart you are, you can always learn more. So the next time you are talking to someone, don’t think you know more than him or her.

One of the best ways to learn is from other people, so when someone doesn’t know the latest stuff that is happening in your world, it doesn’t mean that they can’t teach you anything.

If there is one thing that I wish I could have more of, it’s experience. The more meetings I do, the more problems I run into, the smarter I become because I am always learning from these experiences. Which is why you should never stop learning!

Don’t Fight Fire With Fire

“There’s no way you can be making accusations like that and be walking around alive.”

I’m a big believer in living a peaceful life. I’ve been screwed over multiple times and I never try to pick fights.

The next time you are thinking about burning a bridge or talking negatively about someone, or even picking a fight, just remember that you are better off by keeping your mouth shut and walking away.

You never know how far the other party is willing to go to make your life miserable, so why not just take your tail and put it between your legs. I know it sounds like the sissy thing to do, but in the long run it will pay off. For example I have had someone screw me over and try to pick a fight when it was their fault. I apologized, they forgave me, and a year later they ended up giving me a $240,000 contract.

Conclusion

Robert De Niro isn’t the only actor that you can learn something from, you can literally gain knowledge from everyone. Heck, I even learn new things from my 1-year-old nephew such as you don’t need much in life to be happy.

Stop looking at things just from the surface level, you need to dig deeper.

Matt then decided to dedicate himself to the full-time touring band in which he was the lead singer and guitar player. During that time, Matt traveled throughout the U.S. and landed songs on television networks such as MTV, VH1, and The Discovery Channel. After five and a half years of touring, Matt learned more about the music industry and understood that he was not in total control of his career. A few months had gone by and Matt decided it was time for a change, so he relocated to Annapolis, Maryland with hopes of a new start in the retail management field. After hitting the glass ceiling in his retail management position, he moved on. His objective was to find an opportunity that would challenge him as well as offer an environment that would accept his competitive nature. His drive and ambition lead him towards a career in sales and marketing. After one year of living in Maryland, Matt had learned the skills and tools necessary to then start his very own Sales and Marketing firm. As of March 2008 he is now the President of The Intuitive Group, Inc. in Northern Virginia and is dedicated to growing and expanding his organization into every major market in the U.S. He is currently managing the campaign for a Fortune 100 client and is assisting in the development of a new campaign. Matt Sileno is dedicated and committed to developing Account Executives in his office, so they too have the same opportunity in which he himself has earned.  In 2010 Matt expanded his organization in the Pittsburgh, PA market.  He is looking forward to continuing this growth process by finding and working with the top talent in the Northern Virginia/ Washington DC area.  Matt Sileno still currently writes music and plays guitar. He also stays active through playing sports with team members here at The Intuitive Group, Inc.  He plans on traveling to at least 10 different countries in the next five years.

The Intuitive Group: Think BIG!

“Believe Big. The size of your success is determined by the size of your belief.  Think little goals and expect little achievements.  Think big goals and win big success.  Remember this, too!  Big ideas and big plans are often easier – certainly no more difficult – than small ideas and small plans.”

~ David J. Schwartz

Do not sell yourself short by thinking small or going after what you perceive to be the easy route.  Challenge yourself, come out of your comfort zone, and think BIG!
